La TENS ou stimulation électrique transcutanée est couramment utilisée dans la prise en charge de la douleur. Elle permet d’apporter du confort pour de nombreuses pathologies douloureuses. Elle est réalisée à l’aide d’un appareil de petite taille, fonctionnant sur piles ou batterie, qui administre un faible courant électrique à la peau, par le biais d’électrodes positionnées sur la zone douloureuse. Le principal mode de fonctionnement est celui du Gate-control. En effet, en stimulant les fibres nerveuses du toucher dans une zone douloureuse, on bloque les messages envoyés par les fibres nerveuses de la douleur.
Le cabinet d’algologie est habilité à prescrire l’appareil en location puis au besoin de l’achat de celui-ci.
Il est important lors d’une consultation dédiée de pouvoir prendre en main l’appareil. Cet apprentissage se fera auprès de Mme Zahra, notre infirmière spécifiquement formée .
Le TENS est un outil plébiscité par les patients que ce soit pour des douleurs ponctuelles ou chroniques.
